What each text count includes
The counter measures visible grapheme clusters rather than simply counting UTF-16 code units, so many emoji and combining sequences count as one character. It also reports whitespace-aware characters, words, lines, paragraphs, sentences, estimated reading and speaking time, and encoded UTF-8 size.

Estimated sentences, graphemes, and bytes
- Sentence boundaries use browser language rules and remain estimates.
- Emoji joined into one grapheme can occupy several UTF-8 bytes.
- A whitespace-only input has characters and bytes but zero words and paragraphs.

UTF-8 represents many non-ASCII characters with multiple bytes, while the character count groups visible grapheme sequences.
