Invisible Character Remover
Clean hidden formatting artifacts while preserving line breaks and emoji sequences unless you explicitly choose otherwise.
Tool overview
Why conservative hidden-character cleanup matters
Invisible Character Remover changes only the selected Unicode categories. Its Safe cleanup preset removes common accidental zero-width artifacts, BOMs, and soft hyphens, and normalizes non-breaking spaces. Join controls, directional marks, controls, and variation selectors remain untouched by default because they can carry meaning.
Clean selected hidden copy-paste artifacts
- Clean text copied from web editors
- Remove a BOM embedded in pasted content
- Normalize non-breaking spaces before comparison
- Prepare identifiers without damaging joined emoji
Start conservatively and review each category
- Paste the text that needs cleanup.
- Start with Safe cleanup, or choose another preset.
- Review individual character categories and preservation options.
- Process the text and check the changed-character summary before copying.
Replacement, preservation, and Unicode categories
- Safe cleanup is conservative and preserves emoji zero-width joiners.
- Aggressive cleanup selects every detected category but still lets you preserve line breaks.
- Normalize whitespace only leaves non-spacing format controls untouched.
- Replacement mode can delete selected characters or replace them with regular spaces.

Joiners, direction marks, and meaningful variation
- Removing a ZWNJ can change spelling or joining behavior in some writing systems.
- Removing emoji variation selectors can switch between text and emoji presentation.
- Replacing format controls with spaces may create visible gaps.
- Safe cleanup intentionally leaves directional marks and general controls unchanged.

Questions
Invisible Character Remover FAQ
Will the default settings break family or profession emoji?
No. Emoji joiners are preserved by default, and join controls are not selected in Safe cleanup.
Can I remove every detected category?
Yes. Aggressive cleanup selects all categories, but review the options because some invisible characters are intentional.
