Tool overview
How numbering sequences and blank lines behave
Number Lines adds a generated marker before or after each selected line. Decimal sequences support custom starts, increments, and zero padding; letters and Roman numerals cover outline styles; presets quickly create ordinary lists, Markdown lists, checklists, and code comments.
Agendas, references, outlines, and checklists
- Create a numbered agenda
- Add stable line references to pasted text
- Build a Markdown task checklist
- Format outline levels with letters or Roman numerals
Apply a numbering sequence
- Paste one item per line.
- Choose a style or load a preset.
- Set start, increment, padding, blank-line, restart, and position behavior.
- Copy or download the marked list.
Starts, increments, markers, blanks, and restarts
- Start and increment control the numeric sequence, including descending sequences.
- Zero padding adds leading zeroes to decimal and custom number markers.
- Restart after blank lines begins the sequence again after an unnumbered blank.
- Custom prefix and suffix wrap the generated numeric value.

Roman ranges and non-numeric markers
- Roman numerals are used for positive integers through 3999; other values fall back to decimal.
- Alphabetic sequences continue after Z as AA, AB, and so on.
- Blank lines do not consume a sequence value unless Number empty lines is enabled.
